In this video I showcase my very rare Thorn Gamma 9 (also sold as the BLI Gamma 9) street light lantern from the mid 1960s (1964-1967). It was obtained from a nearby city with permission from the council, as it had been disconnected and abandoned for at lest 20 years. The Gamma 9 was not a common lantern, even during its production - and it was subsequently discontinued by 1972. As you can imagine, surviving examples nowadays are extremely rare. This one would have run a tungsten lamp when in service, which was later changed to 160W self-ballasted mercury. Other examples were sold for MBF/U, SOX, or fluorescent tubes. In this video I give the lantern a teardown and eventually switch it on once the internal construction has been showcased. I sped this warm up up as no significant changes were visible. #streetlight #1960s #rare #mercury #streetlighting #lamp Music in this video: "Man Down" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b...
