Just returned from an exhilarating 3-day bluefin tuna adventure aboard the Independence, sponsored by Young’s Tackle. (7.3.2024 to 7.6.2024) We were blessed with perfect weather, exceptional fellow fishermen, and the relentless efforts of Captain Brian to maximize our haul until the very last moments. Here’s a recap of our trip: Day 1 (Near Cortez Bank): We hooked an impressive 21 bluefin tuna during the night bite, ranging from 165 lbs to 60 lbs. Day 2 (Near Butterfly Bank): Caught 5 bluefin tuna during the day and another 21 at night, focusing on smaller sizes. Day 3 (Near 43 Area): Discovered a kelp paddy yielding 3 yellowtail, 5 bonitos, and added 5 more bluefin tuna just before closing time at 11 pm. Throughout the journey, we enjoyed delicious meals, camaraderie among skilled anglers, and a top-notch crew. Captain Brian’s dedication was exceptional, ensuring an unforgettable experience from start to finish. My utmost respect goes out to him. In total, the boat landed 47 tuna, 3 yellowtail, and 5 bonitos. Scott Kim clinched the jackpot with a 165 lb tuna, while my own catches included fish weighing 69 lbs, 65 lbs, and 45 lbs. Well done, Scott!
