Vocal cord palsy is a common clinical problem we see in routine ENT practice. Common causes are Iatrogenic (Post Thyroidectomy), Neck trauma, Mediastinal tumors.... This results in the change in voice and patients have problem to communicate resulting in poor quality of life. There are temporary and permanent procedures available to improve the voice in these patients. In this video I am demonstrating a Type 1 Thyroplasty - Medialisation of the paralysed Right Vocal cord with injection of Hyaluronic acid through cricothyroid membrane under endoscopic guidance under local anaesthesia in the clinic. The procedure takes about 10-15 mins and patient needs to stay in the hospital for about an hours post procedure. There will be immediate improvement in voice post procedure, due to reduction of the phonatory gap. This benefit lasts for about 3-6 months and need to be repeated. The other options available are Injection laryngoplasty is Autologous nano fat and Gore-Tex medialisation through external approach.
