I wanted to do a quick video on probably the most important part which is the colon prep or the bowel cleansing process now I do realize that you may have heard that this is the worst part of the whole colonoscopy experience but with a little preparation, it won't be as bad as you think. The actual colon prep starts the day before where you're gonna be in a clear liquid diet now you need to remain on this and you're gonna push a lot of electrolyte fluids which do include broth and Gatorade things like that while you're doing this I want you to start preparing for the prep by getting yourself a survival kit. This is gonna start with getting some hypoallergenic wipes also you're gonna be spending a lot of time in the bathroom so get some reading material or fire up the iPad or the iPhone whatever it is it keeps you entertained. A nice little tip also is go out and pick up some vaseline or some diaper rash cream which does work is a good barrier and helps protect the skin so now that you've gotten yourself ready. It's time to go to the bowel prep itself now there are a lot of bowel preps on the market regardless of which one my staff tells you to take you can find all of the information on KennethBrownMD.com There is where we have the bowel prep for each one of these in PDF format so you can just download and print it once you get going with this. If you do start having some issues such as fever or pain please call our office the doctor on call or myself we'll get back to you. A very common complaint is that people would get a little nauseous when they start taking this if you do get nauseous take about a 30 to 45 minute break and that helps settle your stomach down and a lot of times you can just go back to it so I do realize that this is a little inconvenient and maybe even a little bit embarrassing. But ultimately by doing a really good bowel prep I get a chance to get in there and find those polyps which can ultimately I can take out and that could ultimately save your life so good luck I hope it goes well.
