The Design Lab at IIHS has developed a set of guidelines for the design and development of COVID-19 Care Centres (CCCs) and Dedicated Covid-19 Health Centres (DCHCs). In these guidelines, advisories of the Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the ICMR and the WHO have been adapted, to develop and repurpose sites/buildings in areas with limited resources such as small towns and villages in India, South- and South-east Asia, and Africa. The guidelines focus on reducing the spread of infection in these facilities by managing flows of patients, health care workers and service staff. They also contain designs for different site typologies, such as hostels and schools, railway stations and open grounds/greenfield sites. Suggestions have been provided for selecting sites, materials and service infrastructure that are readily available and easy to set up. This webinar is an overview of the guidelines document; highlighting the key concepts that drive design of CCCs and DCHCs as well as demonstrating examples of the ways in which these concepts may be applied.
