She Ain’t No Use to Me • Just in Case You’re Wonderin’ • Oh No Probably the rarest Canadian garage rock album ever pressed. Recorded by Cambrian College students in 1966, The Sound Sett’s only LP is a fuzz-drenched, raw garage rock masterpiece. Only 80 copies were made for friends and family — thought lost until recently rediscovered by guitarist Bruce MacGregor while thumbing through his Beatles records. In this video: ► Two explosive Ugly Ducklings covers ► Their blazing original track “Oh No” – a standout garage-punk anthem Featuring: 🎸 Bob Coulombe: lead guitar (Fender Strat & Deluxe Amp) (original 1964-65 trio The Strangers) 🥁 Jim Bagshaw: drums (formerly of Inferno 5 Plus 1) 🎤 Ken Cartmill: vocals (famously shy, dressed head-to-toe in black onstage!) 🎸 Bruce MacGregor: rhythm guitar (Fender Mustang, bought from Leo Fender himself!) (original 1964-65 trio The Strangers) 🎸 Jerry Siegfried: bass guitar (original 1964-65 trio The Strangers) 🎸 Chuck Wesley: rhythm guitar (played for The Bee-Jays in his hometown of Marathon) The album was released under Algoma Productions, the same local label that issued garage 45s by fellow Sault Ste. Marie bands The Amen (“Carnivals and Cotton Candy” b/w “Peter Zeus”) and (Those) Rogues (“Wish I Could See You Again” b/w “Girl”). It was a Spring 1967 Quality Custom pressing, manufactured at Arc Sound in Toronto. Bruce’s original reel-to-reel master was sent to Toronto by the band’s manager, Joe Spina, who coordinated the pressing. “We just wanted 10 copies for ourselves… but people kept asking, so we upped it to 80,” Bruce said. Thought lost for decades, the album resurfaced when Bruce discovered his lone surviving copy inside an old Beatles LP sleeve. After a careful cleaning, it played perfectly. This is a true Canadian garage rarity, now streaming for the first time. 💥 Now streaming at citizenfreak.com Stay tuned for the full album release + The Strangers 120-track instrumental archive!
