Major political shifts are unfolding in Bexar County following Tuesday’s primary elections. Former San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg defeated incumbent Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai to win the Democratic nomination for county judge. With Democrats historically winning the seat, Nirenberg is now widely viewed as the favorite heading into the November election. Meanwhile, the race to replace outgoing Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales is heading to a May runoff. Luz Elena Chapa and Jane Davis emerged as the top two candidates from a crowded field of eight contenders.
