South Carolina State Cross Country Championship Girls 5-A D1

GIRL 5-A D1 The 2025 South Carolina High School League Cross Country State Championships took place on November 14-15 at the Aiken Steeplechase Horse Track. The Girl 5-A D1 featured the top female runner in South Carolina, Ella Nighbor of Clover H.S. She certainly proved that as she became the only girl on championship weekend to go sub 18 for the 5K, shattering that time barrier by running across the line in 17:37 for gold. This race concluded Nighbor’s undefeated season against competition from South Carolina. Taylor Blackwelder (Summerville) ran a strong race herself, running 18:17 for the runner-up position. Anna Kelly (Blythewood) took the bronze medal, holding third for most of the race, with a time of 18:34. The top nine athletes all went under 19 minutes. The team championship was expected to be very close, with Clover, Mauldin, and Wando all having strong squads with the potential to take the title. In the end, Clover had the best day, putting their top 4 in the top 20 to clinch their first SCHSL State Championship, with 87 points. That left Wando and Mauldin to battle for runner-up team, with Wando claiming those honors with 106 points. This race lived up to it’s billing as a standout competition!
