When I first heard about this new mounting innovation, it caught my attention. Being compatible with boards like the Frog Mini and Cloudline gave me the green light. I tried it on the Frog Mini but didn’t really like the outcome. But for 4 bucks, can't really complain. I've yet to test it on the Cloudline though. So every weekend, I try to take time to do my keeb chores. I happened to have a spare Galatea solder PCB lying around and was wondering what to do with it. I’ve gone plateless before but didn’t enjoy the excessive vibration and the typing feel. So I rebuilt that one with a plate. Since I’ve already built Alu v1.1 half, Alu v4 half, CEM3 full Alu, FR4 full Alu, 2mm PC sandwich, 1.2mm FR4, PP plate, Alu v3 and so on.... I thought why not revisit the plateless setup again? Then I recalled @DestenSheng once hinted that this could possibly work on the F1. You know we gotta do what we gotta do. I test-fitted the unbuilt PCB with the Keysnap and it fit perfectly. No doubt in my mind it was worth trying. I soldered MX Blacks plateless, then tested the Keysnap. You just have to find the right clipping spot. It changes the feel and sound quite a bit. My advice is to avoid clipping near the spacebar. It’ll make it too stiff. It does sound good though but I prefer keeping the Keysnap away from that area. The overall typing feel is bouncy but not overly so, not trampoline bouncy like with the regular plateless kit. The vibration is still present but much more controlled. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this new mounting style. It genuinely feels like a whole new board. I plan to try the other Keysnap variant soon to see if it changes the experience. But for now, I’m just glad this works so well with the F1. Highly recommended if you’re looking to go plateless. At this point, you’ll probably start seeing more of my videos experimenting with what else this board can offer. I’m genuinely amazed by how customizable it is and how many possible combinations you can explore. Board: Geonworks F1-8X V2 https://divinikey.com/products/geon-f...
