Organ decellularization and recellularization are tissue engineering techniques that aim to create functional transplantable organs. The goal is twofold: first to create an acellular organ scaffold by removing the cells from a donated organ, and then to repopulate this scaffold with recipient cells to generate a personalized organ. This process has several benefits. By decellularizing an organ, we can remove major histocompatibility complex antigens that can trigger immune rejection. The resulting acellular scaffold retains the native extracellular matrix and vascular network of the organ, providing an ideal environment for cells to repopulate. And upon recellularization with recipient cells, the organ can be repopulated with immunologically matched cells to minimize rejection. ___________________________________________________________ References: 1. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/kidney-... 2. https://www.proquest.com/openview/588... 3.
