In this DIY tutorial, I demonstrate how to build a block retaining wall that acts as garden bed edging. This is the ultimate garden bed edging that will last a lifetime, making it an excellent choice for raised garden beds. This process will work for any concrete blocks and some stone block walls. Building a stone or block wall around your garden is a great way to add curb appeal to your home, divide your landscape, and create effective borders or edging. However, most homeowners make mistakes when using blocks for garden bed edging. In this video, I walk you through the process step by step, so you can build a garden retaining wall that looks great and lasts a lifetime without warping or tipping over. The process I demonstrate is best suited for concrete landscaping blocks, but can also be applied to brick. You can use this process to build a retaining wall or a raised garden bed, or simply for garden bed edging, even when not retaining soil. You can build this wall up to three feet tall. First, start with a four-inch layer of packed gravel as the base. Ensure that it is perfectly level, as this is the foundation of your garden wall. Then, begin laying the blocks on the first row and leveling each as you go. This is a time-consuming process, but it's essential, so take your time. Once the first layer of concrete stone blocks is installed, the rest of the project is easy. Add the second layer, ensuring the seams are staggered. Once you have the second layer fit, remove it and apply construction adhesive to secure the blocks together. Then, repeat this process until your wall is as high as you want. Installing a level string tied between two stakes is a great way to help you dig to the appropriate depth, maintain a straight wall, and guide other aspects of the project. To cut the stone, use a hammer and a mason chisel, as I demonstrate in the video. ***Related Videos*** For more DIY landscaping ideas...
