Ensemble Renaissance, an early music ensemble, was founded in 1969 in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia. Today, it stands as the oldest ensemble dedicated to early and traditional music, not only in the former Yugoslavia, but also one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. Faithful to historical authenticity and informed performance practice, the members of Ensemble Renaissance have developed an exceptionally rich repertoire encompassing the musical heritage of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Baroque period. A significant focus of the ensemble’s artistic mission is the research, preservation, and presentation of Serbia’s musical heritage. All programs are performed on replicas of historical instruments from the respective eras. A Journey Through Art and Time Over the past more than half a century, Ensemble Renaissance has performed over 2,000 concerts across the former Yugoslavia, throughout Europe, as well as in the Middle and Near East (including Syria and Iran), and North Africa (Algeria). At the initiative of Ljubomir Dimitrijević, one of the founding members of the ensemble, the study of medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music on historical instruments was officially introduced into the music education system of the Republic of Serbia in 1994.
