Building bridges that span jazz, classical music, and hip-hop, Younger is joined for these dates by her working trio of bassist Rashaan Carter and drumming phenom Makaya McCraven, along with a string section conducted by De’Sean Jones and special guests DJ Pete Rock and vocalist Meshell Ndegeocello. ABOUT BRANDEE YOUNGER: Carrying on and expanding the tradition of pioneering jazz harpists Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane, Brandee Younger made her public debut in 2007 as a grad student at NYU, when saxophonist Ravi Coltrane enlisted the then-23-year-old to participate in the memorial service for his mother Alice. A student of jazz great Jackie McLean, Younger has collaborated with artists from the worlds of jazz, soul, and hip hop, including Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Pharoah Sanders, Lauren Hill, and Common. In 2021 she released her Impulse! Records debut, Somewhere Else, which earned Younger a Best Instrumental Composition GRAMMY nomination for the track “Beautiful is Black.” PERSONNEL: Brandee Younger: harp Rashaan Carter: bass Makaya McCraven: drums SPECIAL GUESTS: De’Sean Jones: flute, EWI, conducting Pete Rock: turntables Meshell Ndegeocello: vocals Cuna Kim: violin Jessica Folson: violin Sarah Hooton: viola Teresa Zhang: viola Daniela Gonzales Siu: cello Hung-Yu Lin: cello Learn more at SFJAZZ.org Subscribe to SFJAZZ's YouTube Channel: / sfjazz Like us on Facebook: / sfjazz Follow us on Twitter: / sfjazz ***SFJAZZ is a non-profit organization that presents year round jazz concerts, festivals and educational programs at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco, CA.
