“A Letter to God” by G.L. Fuentes is a story about a poor farmer named Lencho who lived in a small house on the crest of a low hill. He depended completely on his corn crop for his livelihood. Lencho eagerly waited for rain because it was necessary for a good harvest. One day, it started raining and Lencho was very happy. However, the rain soon turned into a severe hailstorm. Large hailstones destroyed the entire crop, leaving Lencho and his family without any food or money. Lencho was deeply saddened but he did not lose hope. He had strong faith in God and believed that God would surely help him. With this belief, Lencho wrote a letter to God asking for 100 pesos to survive until the next crop. He went to the post office and asked the postmaster to send his letter to God. The postmaster was surprised to read the letter but was deeply moved by Lencho’s faith. He did not want Lencho’s faith to be shaken. So, he decided to help him. The postmaster collected money from his employees and friends and managed to collect 70 pesos. He sent the money to Lencho in an envelope signed as “God”. When Lencho received the money, he was not surprised at all because he completely trusted God. However, when he counted the money and found only 70 pesos, he became angry. He believed that the post office employees had stolen the remaining 30 pesos. Lencho then wrote another letter to God asking for the rest of the money and warned God not to send it through the post office again, calling the employees “a bunch of crooks”. The story highlights Lencho’s innocent and blind faith in God, the kindness and generosity of the postmaster, and the irony of the situation where Lencho doubts the humans who helped him but never questions God. 1. Faith in God – Lencho’s complete trust in God 2. Human Kindness – Help given by postmaster and villagers 3. Irony – Lencho doubts humans but not God 4. Hope and Optimism – Hope even after loss 5. Innocence – Lencho’s simple and pure thinking A Letter to God Class 10 A Letter to God summary A Letter to God themes A Letter to God keywords A Letter to God value points Class 10 English NCERT G L Fuentes A Letter to God Board exam English chapter
