Melbourne humanitarian Moira Kelly says a surrogate Down's Syndrome baby who was allegedly abandoned by his biological parents, could be given life-saving heart treatment in their native Australia. Mrs Kelly, who was awarded the Order of Australia for her charity work, told The Telegraph that she wanted to send a message of support to baby Gammy and his surrogate family in Thailand. Gammy, who has Down's Syndrome and a congenital heart condition, was born to 21-year-old food vendor Pattaramon Chanuba in December. She claims that she was acting as a surrogate for an Australian couple who rejected Gammy at birth, while taking his healthy twin sister home. Pattaramon also says that she did not receive the full payment she was promised. The Australian couple at the centre of the row have reportedly denied abandoning Gammy and said they left the boy in Thailand because they were told he was going to die.
