how i got a penalty at HYROX NYC || Training & Competition Vlog

Walk through my training & come along on competition day then stick around to hear my debrief and future plans/goals. First off: Wouldn’t have been able to do it without my crew! Jar, Ixchel, Mike, Alec, Tyler—y’all absolutely crushed your races and you made training so fun. Can’t wait to do it all over again soon (Chicago anyone??? 😏) Secondly: I had a really tough time making a goal for this race. My last PR was 1:07:12 which was only about two minutes faster than the year before. Only PR’ing by two minute was a big mindfuck for me, and I didn’t want that to happen again, so I just avoided making goals altogether (don’t suggest!!). This year I was so much fitter and more confident than I’ve ever been going into a HYROX. We did some great training leading up to the race that I had never done in years prior which is why I think everyone in our group smashed it. Very very very cool to get to train with friends every week and then watch every single one of them beat their goals 🥹 Long story short, Ixchel and I had been talking for WEEKS about how happy we were that the order of the events went ROW—LUNGES—FARMERS CARRY—WALL BALLS. We said it many times even though that is indeed NOT the order of the events. And it was so ingrained in my head that I swapped the lunges and the farmers carry without even looking at the signage. This led to me getting a 3:00 penalty which is shitty, but oh well. My official time is 1:07:05—a 7 second PR from my last one LOL, but I’m using my non-official time 1:04:05 as my new PR to beat. It may not be official yet, but you better believe that I’m beating 1:04 by a LOT in my next race. I’m always nervous to put these types of goals out there, but sub hour HYROX is happening.
