I want to talk about what happened earlier today. I was out shopping for some clothes with a partner who’s also deaf. My shopping partner was bent over & trying on a pair of pants. A worker came up to us & I could see that she was talking through her mask, trying to tell her something. I just waited & watched. Unable to get her attention, the worker went over & snapped her fingers right in front of my friend’s face while she was bent over with her head down. Ofc my friend reacted negatively! Hearing people... [turns head, clears & prepares throat] [turns back to screen, voices in English] DON’T [clap] EVER [clap] DO [clap] THAT! [clap] EVER! [clap] [signs in ASL] It’s RUDE to snap in people’s (esp deaf people) faces like that. Very RUDE! Best way to get attention is to lightly tap the person’s shoulder. That’s all. That’s all I got to say for today. Thank you. [thumbs up] (cut to black background with white text, reading: “#normalizethetap”) (cut to black background with white text, glitching lightly, reading: “From Jillian GTZ with [red heart emoji]”)
