ABOUT THE ILLAMPU TRAIL: I spent 6 days and 5 nights in the Illampu trail in La Paz, Plurinational State of Bolivia. I started to hike in Sorata and finished in Millipaya village. Illampu is one of highest mountains from Bolivia, 6360 m.a.s.l. Illampu means strong in Aymara language. First day, I started to go up in Sorata (2570 m.a.s.l.) and arrived to Kilambaya village (3300 m.a.s.l.) and later got the Laq’a Thiya village (3940 m.a.s.l.) and stayed and camped there, first campsite. Second day, I started going up slowly until reach the top, Illampu pass (4730 m.a.s.l.), you can watch nice views from here and go down until reach the valley of the Janq’u Uma (white or clear water in Aymara) mountain, 3890 m.a.s.l., second campsite. Third day, go up slowly until reach the Khora Wasi pass(4163 m.a.s.l.) you can look at Cocoyo valley and cross the Cocoyo river and arrive to Cocoyo village and continue going up again on the car road until reach the third campsite in Sarani Valley (3870 m.a.s.l.). Fourth day, go up until reach Sarani pass (4500 m.a.s.l.). After reach this point you have to go down until arrive to Chajolpaya valley (4100 m.a.s.l.), later you have to follow the road and go up until arrive Venaduni lake (4750 m.a.s.l.), fourth campsite. Fifth day, go up from campsite until reach Calzada pass (5050 m.a.s.l.), later down walking around Ch'uxña Quta (green lake in Aymara) lake and leave road and go up again until reach San Francisco pass (4970 m.a.s.l.), down until get the San Francisco valley (4970 m.a.s.l.), campsite. Last day, from campsite up until reach the top (4870 m.a.s.l.), you can look nice view from this place; Jaq’u Uma mountain, Illampu mountain and Titi Qaqa (Titicaca) lake. Later go down until reach Millipaya – Sorata and you can take a car to come back to Sorata.
