A voice in the desert cries aloud, Prepare the way, prepare the way, Make straight the path of the Lord, For heaven’s kingdom draws near today. In the wilderness, under burning skies, A prophet stands where the river lies, Clothed in camel hair, humble and strong, His heart beats wild with a holy song. Repent! The kingdom’s at hand! Turn your hearts, take your stand! The fire will fall, the Spirit will breathe, The Lord is coming—make straight His streets! Jerusalem came, the crowds drew near, Confessing their sins in the waters clear, But he spoke with truth, his words like flame, “Bear fruit of mercy, not empty claim.” Don’t say “Abraham is mine,” For God can raise His sons from stone and time. The axe is ready, the roots await, Only good fruit stands before Heaven’s gate. Repent! The kingdom’s at hand! Turn your hearts, take your stand!
