DIFFICULTY: 5/5 RATING: 9/10 TIPS: There is about 10 miles of gravel road at the end. No potholes but it was very steep & curvy and got narrow in many spots. Go slow and be on the lookout for oncoming vehicles. You can stop hiking somewhere along the Sahale Arm overlooking Doubtful lake and not miss much; the last bit to Sahale glacier camp is very steep, exposed, and rocky & the views up there are similar, just a bit higher up. Grab an offline map and double-check it when you came to Cascade pass, especially on the way back down. There's another trail here that leads down into another valley. You might go that direction accidentally, thinking you were heading back to the Cascade Pass Trailhead! ------------------------------------------------------------- The trailhead itself is amazing! Huge peak towering above with thin waterfalls cascading down. The trail starts with a lot of gentle switchbacks through a forest then opens up as you near Cascade Pass for amazing views of peaks and glaciers. Then up the Sahale arm where the views just get better and better. Your first peak of Doubtful lake is amazing! I saw lots of squirrels, marmots, and goats. It's a beautiful and relatively easy trail along the arm until the trail comes to a large rocky slope. This is the final ascent to Sahale Glacier camp and it's exposed and difficult. You'll be walking over rocks of all sizes - from big and awkward all the way down to small, loose, and slippery. The summit feels rocky and barren. There are several flat areas surrounded by rock walls where people camp & goats that unfortunately have become accustomed to hikers and campers and come quite close hoping for snacks. They weren't aggressive but might be rather disconcerting for some people. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
