After two months of using the Garmin GPSMAP 67i on the trail, I can confidently say it’s the best handheld GPS on the market right now. The battery life is a massive step up from the 66 series—I'm getting around 140 hours with full GNSS and inReach tracking, and over 200 hours in GPS-only mode. That kind of longevity means it’s viable for long trips like thru-hikes or extended backcountry outings without needing a recharge. Accuracy-wise, the 67i holds its own in tough conditions. With multi-band and multi-GNSS, I’m consistently getting six-foot accuracy, even under heavy canopy or in canyons. Compared to the 66i and 66sr, it's a solid upgrade in consistency and performance. Interestingly, it’s nearly identical in performance to the Fenix and Epix watches, which makes me question the need for a larger handheld if a watch can do the same job. The form factor and UI remain unchanged from the 66i, which might be good or bad depending on your perspective. It now uses USB-C and supports map layers, but Garmin dropped USB mass storage mode and NMEA, which complicates things for Basecamp and Mac users. Charging is fast, and it still works well with Garmin’s ecosystem—Explore, Messenger, and inReach all function as expected. Ultimately, while the 67i is a top-tier device, I’m personally switching to the Epix Pro with a Mini 2 for my trail documentation work. It's lighter, just as accurate, and offers all the essential features with better convenience. But if you're looking for rugged reliability, extended battery life, and built-in inReach, the 67i is tough to beat.
