Keimoes to Riemvasmaak

Having driven the length of the R27 highway all the way from Cape Town and ending our epic road trip in Keimoes, it was time for the return trip. We've known about the settlement of Riemvasmaak and the impressive scenery in and around the hot springs, but not being there before, this seemed like the perfect opportunity. So off we went via Kakamas. There's a beautiful tarred road connecting Keimoes to Kakamas, but that's not for us. The R359 just south of Keimoes is a dirt road linking the 2 towns, which is so much more exciting. The road turned out to be in excellent condition and we were entertained to sweeping bends, kokerbooms, a bird of prey sighting and fantastic views. After a great iced coffee at Cafe Ziba and some shopping (ask Selma) in Kakamas, we tackled the last leg of our trip for the day to Riemvasmaak Hot Springs. We've seen some images of the Hot Springs but we weren't quite prepared for what mother nature was to dish up for us. Just before evening broke, with our tent all set up, we walked the 200 metres to the Hot Pool. We were greeted by the most impressive spectacle. Majestic ochre cliffs with birds soaring in the prevailing airstreams. Just magical. The next morning, before sunrise, we made our way back to the hot pools, this time armed with cozzies. What a treat watching the sun kiss the tips of the rocks, gradually lighting the red cliffs below, nature's own curtain raiser. But soon it was time to hit the road again, onwards to Augrabies. As we were bouncing our way up the incline leading out of the Springs, we stopped one last time to gaze back down the valley admiring a place any nature lover simply has to visit. #riemvasmaak #northerncape #keimoes #kakamas #roadrippers #southafricanroadtrip #southafrica #graveltravel
