Wax or oil based colored pencils? DO NOT CARE!

In this video I talk about the exaggerated concerns about wax vs oil based colored pencils. One of the biggest concerns for people may have is about wax bloom. It is easy to address. Using a fixative after completing the work or simply removing the wax bloom with a wipe are both options. For these reasons it's not a concern for me. Additionally there are myths about the quality, color intensity and so on about wax or oil based pencils. Many of these like the notion that wax based pencils are more vibrant or oil based pencils high quality are, in my experience, just myths. Often people who say these things have never tried either the Caran d'Ache Luminance or the Faber Castell Polychromos some of the highest quality colored pencils on the market. The Luminance is "wax based" while the polychromos are "oil based". They have more in common with each other than with more affordable brands in either category. It is true that wax based pencils can sometimes have more opaque lighter colors but again this varies by brand and individual line of pencils. Basically, in my experience technique and the pencils themselves matter more than wax or oil. In truth Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Luminance have more in common with each other than the Polychromos and Lyra do or Prismacolor Soft Core and Luminance do.
