Part 1 of a video series on an extreme makeover of the Seagull Bf109E. This video details correcting several deficiencies and scale inaccuracies of the ARF. The primary goal of the makeover is to correct an inaccurate wingspan by adding 5" that were shorted on the factory wingspan. This was determined by finding the scale factor of the model's fuselage length as compared to the actual aircraft length. That factor was then applied to the actual aircraft wingspan to determine the wingspan for the model. The ARF wingspan from the factory is 64". A correct scale wingspan based on the scale factor is 69". A second major change was to improve the looks of the cowl by crafting a completely new cowl from balsa. Quite a bit of effort was involved in making and detailing this new cowl. Other details were either added or changed to create a better scale model of the Bf109E. Methods include working with blue foam, fiberglass and resin to make parts, using aluminum tape and sheet styrene to create simulated panels and details and crafting a new canopy with balsa and aluminum to reduce the size of the ARF's oversize canopy framing. Later videos will go into more detailing and the covering, painting and weathering of the model. Music from Tunetank
