We started our morning early at the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest to beat the crowds. The deeper we walked in, the more magical it felt — and with the fall foliage in full color, it was even more breathtaking. After exploring, we joined the waitlist for Steak Otsuka (opens at 9am), known for serving premium A5 Wagyu including the ultra-rare Murasawa beef, also known as “phantom beef.” I had it years ago and it’s still my favorite wagyu ever. While waiting for the restaurant to open, we visited Jojakkoji Temple, another beautiful autumn spot in Arashiyama. To end our perfect Kyoto day, we hiked up to Arashiyama Monkey Park. Watching the snow monkeys roam freely and getting to feed them was such a fun and unique experience.
