This video visually shows the difference between insecure HTTP and secured HTTPS network traffic. We draw the diagram of interactions between the client (aka your computer) and the server (aka backend API) to visually explain what is happening inside the TLS handshake (resembling RSA algorithm) to exchange encrypted data. Note that this video is specifically made to explain in a simple way how to establish a secure connection but doesn't pretend to be an accurate representation of reality. It is a metaphor! We don't try to explain many concepts required to understand an actual handshake process. We touch things like public and private keys, but just slightly, nothing more advanced than that. Want to have a better understanding of HTTPS? I suggest starting with the Wikipedia article "HTTPS" explaining core concepts, then diving down to the TLS & SSL, key exchange algorithms like RSA or Diffie–Hellman, cyphers, and more. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- Timeline ------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0:00 - API demo 0:30 - difference from an HTTP client perspective 1:10 - difference from a network traffic perspective 3:37 - how secure connection is established 8:42 - talking with encrypted data 10:57 - the hacker is crying
