Searching for Red-shanked Douc Langurs in Vietnam: The Most STUNNING Primates!

This trip to Central Vietnam was filled with excitement! We spent two days searching for primates near Da Nang, Vietnam, where we found multiple families of critically endangered Red-shanked Douc Langurs, along with the cutest babies! These Langurs are also known as the “Queen of the Primates”, and now I know why! They are incredibly stunning! Seeing them in their natural habitat, observing their natural behaviors and interactions, and learning about their group dynamics was fascinating! We found them at Son Tra Peninsula and Bach Ma National Park. We also saw (and heard!) Northern Yellow-cheeked Gibbons! These Gibbons are an endangered species and can be elusive, so we didn’t get an up-close view of them. However, we did hear their loud, complex vocalizations (or singing). Their songs echoed through the forest of Bach Ma National Park. It was a memorable experience for sure! 🇻🇳 We learned a lot about the local primates and other animals from our wonderful Wildlife Guide, Luc Nguyen (EcoGuide Vietnam). This photography wildlife tour was much more than just photography and wildlife…we also learned about Vietnamese history, culture and food.
