Chopin - Mazurkas Op.6 Janusz Olejniczak (Erard 1849) Op.6 No.1: At the head of his opus 6, Chopin placed a Mazurka in F sharp minor – the very one which, with its initial theme, ushers in that new style which is so very characteristic of Chopin. At the same time, there is no doubt that we have before us, albeit poeticised and sublimated, a kujawiak, with its melodic rubato and rocking dance motion. Here, too, Chopin juxtaposes, and then harmonises, different worlds. It is a purely rustic atmosphere that prevails, based from the lead-in on a contrarily accentuated fifths drone in the bass. Op.6 No.3: In the Mazurka that occupies third place in Opus 6, in E major, it is rustic intonations and motives that dominate – like a drone fifths bass of changing accentuation and a Lydian fourth in the lilt of the melody.
