Ghazal maestro Afzal Subhani ji, tabla nawaz Derrick Jaikaran, and guitarist Mir Ali were also part of the gathering. It was planned as a limited-seating private mehfil. However, once the event was declared, audience interest grew rapidly. The seats were filled, the hall was sold out, and everyone who arrived was kindly allowed to attend. A dear music-loving friend from the US texted me asking whether the event was truly private. I replied that for her, it could probably be made unlisted, and with Mike ji’s kindness, her ticket was arranged. The audience was truly wonderful. People listened attentively for hours and no one left. I met may people who expressed their gratitude in very touching ways, sharing how they enjoyed the mehfil. After the program, we were invited to Mike ji’s home, and after dinner, unplanned another mehfil began. This time there was no sound system, only voices and instruments. One by one, the music unfolded and continued for hours. Maria Ahmed, Nazia Farooqe, Mir Ali, Sandhya Jaikaran, Afzal Subhani ji, and I all sang and shared moments of pure joy together.
