Jamboo everyone, welcome or welcome back to my channel. In today’s video I’m going to be talking about "the obsession with being skinny is rooted in white supremacy + the life of Sarah Baartman. The reason I wanted to make this video was from a tiktok that I watched and included in the video that gym culture now is so toxic with everyone wanting to be skinny and you can't be a big back and all this harmful terminology. Throughout this video, I relate what's going on in gym culture, but also who our current president is and the day in age were in which is the rise of conservatism amongst gen z. I also wanted to highlight that some people (including myself) have no desire to be skinny the way society wants. With being a bigger build, I've seen what I look like when I'm skinny and it just doesn't look right on me and I've came to understand that. I don't want to be in a constant fight with food and struggling and shaming myself because I had a sweet treat even though that isn't is what is going to make me gain weight. There's so much harmful rhetoric online about the body you should have and just how we go through the years, the ideal body will change. I forgot to include this but it's also not surprising that the ideal body is changing again because we're literally going through a recession/depression and what were bodies like during the 20s and 30s during the great depression? The flapper era. Everything in history is connected some way and my goal is to show the linkage of everything and why we have the mindset we have today. All I have to say is that we need to love our bodies at every single stage because it already does so much for us, and if you're an able bodied person making excuses, then just remember how much of a privilege you have over everyone else who isn't able bodied. Again, everything said in this video is completely my own opinion and you don't have to agree with it!
