In this talk, Rukmini Dahanukar offers a peek into the different forms, designs and symbols that appear on currency across time and geographies—with a particular focus on how the Indian #rupee has evolved visually since 1947. Learn about history through the lens of some rare and intricately designed banknotes from India, South and South-East Asia. Rukmini is an independent researcher and founder partner of the brand design and identity consultant firm, Nirmiti. She has presented and published at communication, cultural studies, history, politics and popular culture conferences in Greece, India, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. In November 2022, she organised the conference, 'World Heritage on Banknotes-the next 50', at UNESCO, New Delhi and conceptualised and curated the 'Banking on World Heritage' exhibition at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi in July 2023 as part of the programming to mark for India's presidency of the G20 Summit.
