"Pragsattel. Zu den Linien [...] bitte umsteigen. Ausstieg auf beiden Seiten möglich. Aufzug, Rolltreppe und barrierefreier Umstieg auf der linken Seite." - "Pragsattel. Change here for lines [...]. Exit possible on both sides. Elevator, escalator and step-free transfer located on the left side." This announcement reflects the unique layout of Pragsattel subway station, which is one of the main interchange stations of the Stuttgart subway (Stadtbahn) network served by five different lines. As such, the station is fairly busy with trains every few minutes in each direction. Although there are only two tracks (one per direction), these can be accessed from three platforms: Two side platforms and a central island platform. Since the island platform can be used to board trains in both directions, it enables step-free transfers. For exiting the station from the central platform, an elevator is available, as well as escalators at one end of the platform. Via ramps, the outer platforms are also accessible step-free. At the end of the platforms opposite the escalators, where there are only stairs, both tracks are at the same height. Meanwhile, at the end with the escalators, one of the tracks is lower than the other because of a flyover. Shortly behind each end of the station, there is a junction where trains can take either of two routes. However, at the end with only stairs, this is built without flyover.
