Phillip Sear plays a 'transcription of a transcription' by Bert Read of George L(inus) Cobb's famous 'Russian Rag', itself based on Rachmaninov's famous Prelude in C♯ minor, Op. 3 No. 2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can read more about Cobb (1886-1942) on his Wikipedia page here: https://goo.gl/xfBpHX . This piece is actually quite different from the original in that Read lightens the textures and adds swing to the piece. I'm not sure of the date of the arrangement, but it probably comes from the early 1930s. I have not found much biographical information about Read, except that he started arranging for Ambrose in 1928, and that he apparently only made one solo recording, which you can hear here: http://bit.ly/2wEUIQ6 One is always in awe of the light-fingered right hand playing of 1930s dance band pianists such as Read.
