Jakob Ro, the charismatic celebrity "Danish" chef, is not quite who he appears to be. Though a great talent, Mr. Roe is also a showman and spotting a gap in the U.S. market for New Nordic Cuisine, he has taken on a new personality, as the Danish Chef, Jakob Ro. An only child, born and raised in Brooklyn to a single mother, Mr. Roe was never particularly good at school and as soon as he could, he dropped out. Always interested in good food (his mother was an excellent cook), he decided to attend culinary school, where he turned out to have quite a gift in the kitchen. Receiving an apprenticeship at a famous London restaurant, he moved to England, where he met a Danish waitress, Rikke Mose, and they Immediately fell In love. When his tenure was over, the happy couple moved to Denmark—where a new culinary explosion was about to happen... Roe was at first skeptical of this new Nordic Cuisine-It was simple, yet complex and the philosophy that almost everything could be eaten if prepared correctly appealed to him, especially as there was so much waste in other kitchens. He became obsessed, resulting in the couple splitting up, forcing him to return home to Brooklyn. Mr. Burk has always been surrounded by death. Coming from a long line of undertakers and embalmers: Death is simply just the end. Not to be feared and nothing to be mourned. It just happens. A lonely child, he was always considered strange, not helped by always having a slight odor of embalming fluid Not that he was intentionally bullied by his classmates, in fact, they were more scared of him and thought it best to just pretend that he didn't exist-a crueler form of psychological bullying. There was never any doubt that Mr. Burk would join the family business once he left school, and this suited him just fine. In fact, he was a natural. One could even call him an artist: no matter the cause of death, however violent or destructive, he could make a corpse look beautiful or at least at peace. Due to his talent, his family business soon made quite a name for itself and the cliental became more elite.
