The first footage from the Shusha region in Nagorno-Karabakh, which had been at the center of fighting between Armenian and Azeri forces for days, shows dozens of dead soldiers along the roadside. Susha, known by the Armenians as Sushi, sits on a mountaintop overlooking Stepanakert, the city is regarded as the enclave's capital by its ethnic Armenian administration. Azerbaijan said it captured Susha on Sunday (November 8). The images filmed by Reuters - which is the only international news agency to report from the Shusha region on Friday (November 13) - showed destroyed cars and numerous bodies - some of them left on the roadside as a Russian convoy of peacekeepers drove to Shusha. Several thousand people are feared dead in the latest flare-up of the conflict. The ceasefire halted military action in and around Nagorno-Karabakh, an enclave internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but populated by ethnic Armenians on Tuesday (November 10). Under the agreement, 2,000 Russian peacekeeping troops are being deployed to the region. Since the early 1990s, ethnic Armenians had military control over all of Nagorno-Karabakh and substantial swaths of Azeri territory surrounding it. They have now lost much of the enclave itself as well as the surrounding territory. Subscribe to World News Network: / worldnewsne. . Get more updates on Facebook: / worldnewsnet. .
