Temporal Lobe Damage: Pathophysiology for Nurses For What happens when the temporal lobe is damaged? How will you notice this in your patients? The temporal lobe is largely associated with language and memory. The right and left temporal lobe do have some differences to note. On the right side if there is damage, you may notice higher tendency for people to have problems with memory as it relates to sounds and shapes. So they see a cow but they hear a bark they may associate the bark with the cow. When it comes to the right side, it's not the right sound for the right thing. And so that's how you can help remember sounds and shapes for the right temporal lobe damage. On the left side, this is about understanding the words and the language use of language. So l for language is what you're going to notice is they will have memory impairment for those pieces, language and words. Overall, though, when there's temporal lobe damage, you may also see some really interesting changes such as decreased level of humor, increased level of religion, and like religious religiosity and a decreasing libido.
