We were thrilled to welcome Seattle’s longest-running Latin Jazz group Sonando to our Seattle studios for a live performance. Formed in 1990 by pianist and tresero Fred Hoadley, Sonando has recorded three stellar albums, won an Earshot Jazz Golden Ear award for Best Acoustic Jazz Group of 2007, and received a grant to arrange and perform the music of jazz great Charles Mingus, Afro-Cuban style, in 2011. Hoadley studied both piano and the Cuban guitar called the tres with Cuban masters, and he brings a wealth of musical knowledge to the songs and arrangements for Sonando. The band is comprised of some of the best all-round musicians in Seattle. Band: Fred Hoadley: piano and tres Ricardo Guity: drumset, timbales and percussion Tom Bergersen: congas and percussion Steve Smith: bongos and percussion Ben Verdier: bass Nathan Vetter: trombone Jim Coile: sax and flute Subscribe to see more content from KNKX Public Radio Visit KNKX.org to hear more jazz, blues and NPR News!
