A diagnostic hysteroscopy is a procedure where a thin telescope attached to a camera is inserted through the vagina via cervix, which is the opening to the uterus, to examine the cavity of the uterus to determine any abnormalities. In this video, Dr. Deepak Rao, consultant laparoscopic and gynaecology surgeon discusses about the common findings in a diagnostic hysteroscopy. He mentions htat the most common indication for a diagnostic hysteroscopy is abnormal uterine bleeding which is sub-categorised into heavy uterine bleeding, prolonged uterine bleeding, intermenstrual uterine bleeding and scanty uterine bleeding. He also mentions that when these lesions or diseases are not detected through a routine ultrasound, diagnosic hysteroscopy is done.
