Wendell Alexis (Brooklyn, NY) arrived on the Syracuse University campus in 1982 as one of the top ranked high school players from New York City. Alexis' statistics steadily improved over his four-year career, initially as a quality sixth man in his first three seasons, and later as one of the top forwards in college basketball during his senior year. Alexis' athleticism and length made him a perfect fit for Syracuse's vaunted 2-3 zone defense, and he left the Hill as the #10 all-time rebounder in school history (and currently stands at #20). By his junior year, he averaged nearly 30 minutes per game off of the bench. As a senior, Alexis would move into the starting lineup and finish the campaign as the team's #2 scorer (behind Dwayne 'Pearl' Washington) and rebounder (behind Rony Seikaly), earning a spot on the Big East's All-Conference Second Team and a nod as an Honorable Mention All-American. Syracuse made the NCAA Tournament all four years that Alexis played (including a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 1984) and won the Big East Regular Season title in 1986. With a career free throw percentage of 79.1%, Alexis is S.U.'s #11 all-time shooter from the charity stripe. Many thanks to http://www.orangehoops.org for biographical and statistical information.
