Welcome to #EdLeighsMoneySavingSnowTips | Ep 34 | Laax Laax has long been a mega freestyle hub (in fact it’s just been named the world’s best freestyle resort again). There is plenty of good piste and off-piste action to be had too and it’s relatively unknown to the wider British market. Not many tour operators go there. Laax, which is car-free, is more a DIY trip with a hotel kind of place and there are some good accommodation deals to be had. Top of the list is Mountain Hostel, which has quadruples for £187 which includes breakfast and dinner, and it’s in a great location. Riders Hotel (which for years was the notorious party hotspot Riders Palace) also has a top location, and decently priced doubles for £141 a night though be warned that doesn’t include breakfast and dinner, which look good but pricey. Also, at the weekend be warned staying above a club, which is still in the basement, won’t equal a lot of sleep. Airbnb is a good call. We found a two-bed apartment from £35 a night. And booking.com has a good selection, though as we mentioned last week you’ll usually get a better deal by calling or messaging the accommodation direct. As ever, don’t forget to save money & mega faff by hiring your skis and snowboard in advance. Head to Intersport here & use the promo code MSST on checkout. Laax does have discounted lift passes for beginners or if you just want to use the snow park. The train is quite easy actually (taking around 10 hours) via Strasbourg or you can fly to Zurich and then get the train or bus up to Laax. One last thing to mention. Hats off to Laax for introducing a host of green initiatives this winter through their Greenstyle Foundation. These include drinking water fountains, keep cup discounts, carbon neutral energy use on the lifts & new a food waste project at the Riders Hotel That’s it for this week but please do check in with any Laax tips you have or just memories of fun times you’ve had in the resort over the years. Cheers until next time, Ed! #edleighsmoneysavingsnowtips #edsnowtips
