DISCLAIMER THIS VIDEO IS NOT MADE FOR KIDS THIS IS ONLY MADE FOR TEENS AND ADULTS WHO LIKE SESAME STREET, MUPPETS, OR LOST MEDIA EVERYONE CAN SAY WHAT THEY WANT IN THE COMMENTS On November 25, 1982 Will Lee who played Mr. Hooper on Sesame Street playing him for over 13 years, made his final role as him and his last public appearance in general at the 1982 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Even though he was ill with cancer he performed the best that he could at the parade. Caroll Spinney (Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch) said that the last time he saw Lee alive was during the taping of the last episode involving Mr. Hooper in November 1982. Lee felt ill that day and barely spoke to the cast. Spinney (who was wearing Big Bird's feet at the time) placed his arm around Lee's shoulder and said "I love you, Mr. Hooper." Lee replied, "And I love you, Caroll." Lee died a few days later. Two weeks later Will Lee died from a heart attack at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Eleven months later an episode all about his death was made which is called Goodbye Mr. Hooper Episode 1839. In which the episode is about how the adults explain Big Bird about his death and that Mr. Hooper is gone forever. For decades the final public appearance of him and the parade in general was completely lost. It wasn’t until on April 11th, 2022, YouTuber RetroGamePlanet uploaded more, previously unseen footage from a cam recorder of the 1982 Parade with featured the final public appearance of Mr.Hooper which was first time this was seen to the public in nearly 40 years. In April 15, 2022 the full parade uploaded on YouTube and archive.org by Laura Brannigan Forever which the final public appearance of Mr Hooper was finally found. Thank you Retro Game Planet and Laura Brannigan Forever for finding this important piece of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Sesame Street history after nearly 40 years to be seen by the public. Rest In Peace Will Lee, Caroll Spinney, Emilio Delgado, and Jerry Nelson you all brought joy, brought Sesame Street to this world, and all of you will be missed.
