On May 12, 2025, LAPD officers from the West Valley Division responded to a tense call involving a man reportedly armed with a knife and frying pan in an apartment complex on Reseda Boulevard. Officers encountered 31-year-old Rafiullah Erfan, who shattered his apartment window and confronted police in the courtyard. Despite de-escalation efforts, the suspect charged toward officers with a knife in hand, prompting a rapid tactical response involving a TASER deployment and an officer-involved use of force. Erfan was safely taken into custody and treated at a local hospital. A black-handled 5-inch kitchen knife was recovered at the scene. No officers or bystanders were harmed during the encounter.
