Geraldine Hunt's phenomenal "Cry Cry Cry" (1972) was an overlooked B-side on Roulette and a soul funk masterpiece. Best remembered for her huge 1980 dancefloor hit "Can't Fake The Feeling," Hunt released her first single at age 17, in 1962. Her first minor hit came in 1970, when the duet "You And I" that she sang with Charlie Hodges hit #45 R&B. Following its success, Hunt released a series of records on Roulette in the early 1970s that became Northern Soul classics. They included "Baby I Need Your Loving" (1972), a cover of the Holland-Dozier-Holland classic that was the A-side to "Cry Cry Cry," and her final release for Roulette, the beautiful "You Brought Joy" (1973), which was co-written, arranged and produced by Leroy Hutson. In 1980, she recorded her second album No Way for New York label Prism Records. Its first single "Can’t Fake The Feeling" was a massive club hit, topping the U.S. dance charts for seven weeks. The track was a personal favorite of David Mancuso who played it at his Loft parties for years. With the anti-disco backlash in full swing, its radio airplay was limited and only reached #58 R&B, but was a top-ten hit for her in France and hit #44 in the UK.
