TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 - Intro 03:02 - Disable virtual monitor pre-allocation 05:25 - Disable GeForce Experience Overlay 06:00 - Disable Xbox Game Bar ► ► ► BEFORE YOU COMMENT SAYING THE REGISTRY/HOLOGRAPHIC FOLDER IS NOT DISPLAYED PLEASE NOTE: ► Changing the registry key value is only available with the following Windows Updates: 2020-07 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 2004 (KB4568831) OR 2020-10 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 1909 (KB4580386) OR 2020-10 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 1903 (KB4580386) Please go to Windows Updates again and check for additional/optional updates and see if you see one of these three on the list of options to download and install and try again. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wind... for more info. ► This simple setting alone is impacting your performance whether you realize it or not! After doing the things mentioned in this video, your overall VR gaming performance should improve. I found out that having monitor pre-allocation enabled (Which it is enabled by default for everyone) caused a HUGE load on my GPU. I’m talking 40+% usage on my GTX 1080ti, and 30% usage reported by NEMRCOMEDY on his RTX 3080 GPU . So first things first, you can even check this for yourself to see if your Windows Mixed Reality headset is being counted as a display. Plug in your Windows Mixed Reality VR Headset if it isn’t already, and then right-clicking on your desktop and click “Display settings”. This will pull up your active displays. If you see more displayed then you have of physical desktop monitors, those ones are your Windows Mixed Reality VR Headset. Numbers 5,6 and 7 are my Windows Mixed Reality VR headset as I currently have 4 physical monitors. Now go ahead and unplug your VR headset from your PC or disconnect the AC/Power and check your “Display settings” again and see if the displays change. If when you had your Windows VR Headset connected you saw more displays, then that is what we are going to address in this video. ► Disable the virtual monitor pre-allocation: 1. Check Windows Update to ensure you have the latest version of windows installed. (Type “Windows Update” in Windows search-bar and click “Check for Updates”) 2. Launch Registry Editor (Type “Registry Editor” in Windows search-bar and click “Run as administrator”). 3. Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Holographic" 4. If the "PreallocateVirtualMonitors" REG_DWORD is not present, create it by selecting Edit, New, DWORD (32-bit) Value and entering PreallocateVirtualMonitors as the name 5. If the "PreallocateVirtualMonitors" REG_DWORD is present (or you just created it), double-click the entry and change "Value data" from 1 (its default value) to 0 (zero) TRUE - 1 FALSE - 0 Restart for this to take effect, but after your restart plug your VR headset back in and you should now no longer see it displayed under Windows “Display Settings” ! ► ADDITIONAL THINGS YOU CAN DO TO BETTER YOUR GAME/VR PERFORMANCE: • Disable your GeForce experience overlay if you have GeForce experience installed. GeForce experience is an FPS killer while gaming. Close that out when gaming (Or uninstall it and manually download your drivers like I do) and I can guarantee your framerate will be a bit better in game. 1. Right click on the Nvidia system tray icon and select NVIDIA GeForce Experience. 2. Log into your NVIDIA account. 3. Click the Settings icon (gear) on top right. 4. In the GENERAL tab, turn off IN-GAME OVERLAY and exit. • Disable Xbox Game Bar in Windows Settings. Open Settings, search “Enable Xbox Game Bar” in the Settings search box and turn it off. ► SHOUTOUTS: • Curtis, Developer of OVR Toolkit: https://store.steampowered.com/app/10... • NEMRCOMEDY: / @nemrcomedy ► SOURCES: • https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wind... • https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answe... • https://www.partitionwizard.com/parti... • https://www.charitydynamics.com/wp-co... ► SOCIALS: • Join the Discord: / discord • Follow me on Twitch: / holdenriot • Follow me on Twitter: / holdenriot • Like on Facebook: / holdenriot ► Join our K33N Gaming Community's Discord! / discord K33N Gaming Website: http://www.k33ngaming.com
