Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a brain disorder in which excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) accumulates in the brain, causing thinking and reasoning problems, difficulty walking, and loss of bladder control. The term "normal pressure" is used because despite excess fluid, the CSF pressure still measures normal. With the aging population, we see increasing numbers of dementia. Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus can be one of the causes for dementia symptoms - which we can hope is the case because it is one of the few causes for dementia that can be controlled or reversed with treatment.
