On January 14, 2026, California Highway Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop near Long Beach Boulevard and Interstate 105 in Los Angeles County, California, after observing a vehicle run a red light. CHP officers made contact with the driver and observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment, including red watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver denied consuming alcohol but performed poorly on a series of field sobriety tests. A preliminary alcohol screening test was administered, yielding results of 0.164% and 0.169% BAC, more than double the legal limit in California. The driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. During the arrest process, the suspect became uncooperative, refused commands, and physically resisted officers. The suspect kicked at officers' multiple times, attempted to spit on them, and required the use of a restraint device to safely take her into custody. A chemical breath test later produced results of approximately 0.161% and 0.158% BAC. The suspect was transported to a hospital for medical clearance and later booked into the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Century Station on the following charges: CVC 23152(a) — Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol CVC 23152(b) — Driving With BAC of 0.08% or Higher CVC 23578 — DUI With BAC of 0.15% or Higher PC 243(c) — Battery on a Peace Officer PC 243(b) — Battery on a Peace Officer PC 241(c) — Assault on a Peace Officer PC 148(a)(1) — Resisting / Obstructing an Officer CVC 14601.1(a) — Driving on a Suspended License All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
