Q: I've been practicing my scales for awhile now, so I know them quite well. Also, if I work on composing a melody I can make them up, only thing is they're kind of boring. And, my big problem is improvising. I find it very difficult to play an interesting solo. Everything I play sounds the same. Is there a practice suggestion that you could offer to help me with improving this? I think it may have to do with my rhythm. J.D. - Seattle, WA. USA A: When it comes to improvisation, one of the most common questions that I get asked usually sounds something like this, "I've studied all of my scales and arpeggios, but I can't come up with good solos when I try improvising - what am I doing wrong?" Well, it's not that guitar students are doing something wrong, the thing is in order to become a good improviser, we need to keep expanding the procedure that we're using for the study of improvisation. The way we can truly develop our improvisational skills is through a process of 'blending together' several study areas. These include the obvious ones like; learning other guitar players licks & expanding our own skills with guitar technique. But, probably the most important one, is composing and expanding upon an established melody. And so, in this video, I have a great routine on expanding the use of a melody using a system entirely based upon rhythm! ____________________________________ Creative Guitar Studio merch on TeeSpring: https://creative-guitar-studio-2.crea... ____________________________________ Andrew's Official Website: https://www.andrewwasson.com Andrew's "2nd" YouTube Channel: / guitarblogupdate Follow on FaceBook: / guitarwasson Follow Andrew on Blogspot: https://creativeguitarstudio.blogspot...
