LA Protests: Curfew Imposed For Downtown Los Angeles After Looting | 10 News First

A curfew has been issued for downtown Los Angeles as anti-ICE protests entered their fifth day. Mayor Karen Bass stated that “we reached a tipping point” after 23 businesses were looted, prompting her to declare a local emergency and introduce the curfew, which runs from 8pm Tuesday to 6am Wednesday. The curfew applies to a 1 square mile area but exempts residents, the homeless, credentialed media, and public safety and emergency officials. Police Chief Jim McDonnell said, “The curfew is a necessary measure to protect lives and safeguard property following several consecutive days of growing unrest throughout the city.” He added, “To be clear, again, that’s not about silencing voices or suppressing lawful protest.
