Our visit to the Scotney Castle in Kent

A look around the estate at Scotney Castle in Kent. Part of our Historic England collection (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLw.... Scotney Castle Estate is managed by the National Trust and consists of the old 14th-century castle and moat, the gardens, Scotney House and its walled garden. We start at the ticket office, coffee shop and ticket office before heading past Scotney House as we head downhill through the gardens to the old castle and its moat. We look at the castle from a variety of different angles and witness the deliberate distressing by Edward Hussey III in the 19th-century after he had the New Scotney Castle built, which we now know as Scotney House. The old castle became the centrepiece of his 'Picturesque Gardens' created on the estate. A stroll back up the hill, though those Picturesque Gardens in their autumnal colours, and we arrive back at the 19th-century Scotney House. We now take a tour of Scotney House, starting in the wood-panelled entrance hall, complete with period fittings and features. We then pass into the study and onto the library (There is an element of Cluedo about the house). We then head onto the main dining room and adjoining the family dining room. We finish in the house with the kitchen, before heading out to the courtyard. Our tour concludes with a look at the restored octagonal walled garden.
