They bring out those strengths so that they can maximize the performance of the whole organization. So your leadership is often going to be judged on how much you’re able to leverage the strengths of your team. Now this might not be a problem for certain segments of your staff. I say strengths, and you might be drawn to three names right off the top of your head of strong individuals who are great at doing their jobs. But what I’m here to tell you is that every single member of your team has a strength that you can leverage. You just have to find it. Now for some people where it’s not that obvious, the question is, “Well how do I find out what their strength is? I’m not sure they have one.” Well, they have one, again, you just have to find it. So look for three things: Look for things that they do well. It might be that certain aspects of sales, let’s take a metric of sales. Certain aspects of sales they are great at, however, overall they’re weak in other areas. So look at what they are good at, take a second look, dive a little deeper into the metrics and see where they’re performing well. Those are going to be indicative of strengths that they have. The second thing that you want to look at is what they like to do. People are naturally drawn to areas where they are going to be successful People don’t like to fail. They don’t like to spend time in areas where they are weak. So if you have somebody who’s volunteering for certain duties, if you have somebody who is always in a particular area or excited about a particular product, that is indicative of a strength that they have that you can bring out and use. The third thing that you want to look at is asking them what they want to do. Again, similar to what they like to do, having that one-on-one conversation with somebody and asking them what they want to do, what they want to learn, again, they’re going to be drawn to and they’re going to want to learn about things that they feel they are going to be good at. If they feel they’re going to be good at, they’re much more likely to be as well. So look at areas where they do well, and look into multiple layers of that, second look at areas that they like, and third, look at areas that they want to learn in and they want more exposure in. Those are the three areas where you’re going to be able to discover strengths in your team. And even those strong individuals, you may discover a number of heightened strengths that they have that you can leverage once you know those strengths you can start moving people around, and adjusting to get the most out of them. Thanks, have a good one everyone.
